This project is jointly funded by the British Academy and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences under the UK-China Joint Research and Innovation Partnership Fund (the Newton Fund in China), which, through building research and innovation capacity, promotes sustainable economic development and social welfare in China.

This programme, launched in 2015, focuses on early to mid-career CASS researchers who have already established (or in the process of establishing) a research group or research network and already have a research track record. It aims at developing their research strengths and providing support for training and development in collaboration with a UK partner. The award has supported CASS researchers to establish and develop collaborations with Cardiff University in the UK, with the intention of transferring knowledge and research capabilities to China.

The BA-CASS Newton Advanced Fellowship has enabled the CASS team at the Institute of Sociology to develop their research capabilities by linking with some of the best research groups and networks in the UK. Over the course of the project, we have completed a series of research training, reciprocal visits and the transfer of knowledge and skills from the UK. This project has also laid the foundation for long-term links between the best research groups and networks in China and in the UK to ensure sustainable improvements in research capacity in the longer term.

Our project would not be possible without the generous support of our funders. Learn more about them by clicking on their names above.
